When you come in for an exam, you might wonder why we need to know everything that has gone on in your mouth, but there are very good reasons for that.

Reasons for Seeing Your Dental History

One primary reason why we need to see your dental history before an exam is so that we can know what has already been done to you in the past. Knowledge of any cavities, aversion to certain medicines, or work done on teeth is crucial so that we do not do similar work on your mouth again. When it comes to examinations or procedures that are more invasive, the more crucial it is that we have your dental history.

You might not remember every detail about the various surgeries or operations that have happened in your mouth, because that is what the dental history is for. It allows us to look over your record, see what pre-existing work exists, and if there are any concerns or worries for future work. For example, perhaps you are going to receive anesthetic for an examination or surgery. It is beneficial for our staff to know beforehand if you have any allergies to the anesthetic or if you have any conditions that would make us hesitant to put you under.
